Marking their 5 year anniversary with 3 very different and totally rad events.
‘What’s the point of a women’s-only event?’ people often ask. Women’s Longboard Camp is now entering its 5th year. A vision of creating a space for women in longboarding and the associated lifestyle has turned into an institution. ‘Pretty professional, but still skateboarding’, to recite a recent recap of last year’s event – we’re stoked and really proud how our initiative has developed over the past few years.
So what exactly does a women’s-only camp in an action sport that’s still in its relative infancy look like? And what about everybody’s main concern – ‘A camp for women, run by women, without bitching?’ We’ve been doing this for several years and we’re still amazed at how quickly people from all walks of life and all kinds of different cultures bond and fire up this all-encompassing energy over something they’re passionate about.
To overcome fears with like-minded women, to share an outdoor sport in unison with nature yet amidst urban surroundings – this is the kind of spirit we want to pass on, the type of vibe we want to share. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a man or a woman – skateboarding is what brings us all together.
The following quote by one of our rad #WLC2015 riders really nails what the camp and the concept behind it is all about:
'‘Despite being the slow poke and overthinking things and having mental blocks, I will never ever give up on longboarding and will keep on pushing my limits and will keep on staying rad.
Thank you WLC crew for having given me a truly memorable week that I will remember for the rest of my life!’'
Yes, there is a need for women’s-only event and yes, it is really worth it, putting in the time to take every single one of them by the hand, to show them how strong they really are, that they do have a place in longboarding and above all, that ultimately, it doesn’t matter whether you’re male or female if you have been inspired with the right kind of stoke and confidence.
A big thank you to everybody who believes in us, riders and sponsors.
