Kickpush 2014

Wednesday 30th October saw the latest distance skate in the KickPush 2014 adventure to raise money for Asthma UK and The A Skate foundation. The end goal is a John o’Groats to Lands End skate in August 2014, but in the meantime there are plenty of little warm up runs to be had.

This little warm up was a 48 mile route from Exeter to Barnstaple over the Devon countryside. For those of you familiar with the area you will know that it’s not the flattest part of the world and that mixed up with the slippery road surfaces from the rain meant it was always going to be a tough run.

Andy Norman the man behind KickPush 2014 along with Steve Beardsley on the support bike set of early from Barnstaple on the train down to Exeter. Their first port of call was the Fat Face store in the Princesshay shopping centre, Exeter. The Fat Face foundation have really generous in their support of KickPush 2014 and the idea was to skate between the two stores in Exeter and Barnstaple. After photos, at 10.30am it was time to set off.

The route chosen was a mixture of country and B roads taking in Sandford, Witheridge, South Molton and then along to Barnstaple.

The forecast for the day wasn’t good but luck was on their side as the rain held off. The indifferent road surfaces at times made the going tough, and along with a few flooded areas progress was slow but Barnstaple Fat Face store was reached at 5.55pm. 48 miles covered in 7hrs and 25 mins.

There are more skates to follow before the big one so please follow the progress on Facebook and Twitter, KickPush 2014, and if you feel you can help out at all please get in touch with Andy.
