Longboard Girls Crew UK kicks off a national virtual challenge!

Hi Thrill Magazine community,

The Longboard Girls Crew UK Ambassadors have created a FREE virtual challenge and if you’re a woman in the UK or Ireland we’d love for you to take part and join us no matter your ability!

The challenges will run from Friday 23rd April to Monday 3rd May so you have plenty of time to take part and make the most of the sunny early May bank holiday.

The aim of the virtual challenge is simply to get even more women and girls skating. Since COVID-19 began, we’ve been given more time to pick up our boards and through social media felt inspired and connected. It’s been incredible to see the uptake of longboarding recently and we want to build on the momentum and help more women embrace a life on wheels.

If you’ve skated with a girl crew before you know how empowering it can be, so while we can’t meet up in person the Ambassadors here at LGC UK want to bring everyone together through an online event. We want to connect women across the UK to motivate and inspire each other virtually and then, who knows, post-COVID you might be able to skate with these amazing women in person (I know we’re certainly planning many longboard road trips in the future!).

If you’re thinking, “Ah, I’ve just started longboarding and I love to cruise” or “I’m not throwing myself down hills at 40mph yet” DO NOT PANIC! After listening to community feedback we have made sure to create inclusive challenges that are beginner friendly and also challenge advanced riders. Remember why we all started longboarding, to have fun, connect with other people and feel the freedom of your wheels rolling beneath your feet.

All entries must be submitted here on our challenge group page on Facebook. We would love to see you also tag us in your posts @longboardgirlscrewuk and hashtag #longboardchallengeUK – however submissions only count in the group page. Participants must be at least 18 years old and live in the UK/Ireland to receive prizes. Keep an eye out on our Instagram and Facebook as we’ll be reposting and sharing the stoke!

We have some amazing sponsors who have generously provided, dare I say it….AWESOME prizes! A massive thank you goes out to Newton’s Shred, Slide Perfect, Lush Longboards, Thrill Magazine, Tic Tac Skate School, SP8boards, Quin Boards, 360boards, Longboard Girls Crew Global and Waves Paves Gals.

For every challenge that you complete you will earn points, with bonus points up for grabs and prizes will go to the girls who have earned the most points. However, creativity will be rewarded and we also have raffle prizes, so if you’re unable to complete all 10 challenges you could still be in with a chance of winning.

*JOIN THE CHALLENGE HERE*

We can’t wait to see your entries, happy skating!

With love, Longboard Girls Crew UK (@Longboardgirlscrewuk)

Packing for a UKDH event

The year is 2037

and @SKATEHOGHILL have just announced Hoghill, The Crackling is going to be in 3 months. Brianne Collective are still talking about “definitely” throwing a Wales event this year. Maybe even at a new(ish) spot. You’ve persuaded someone to give you a lift but the question remains; what do I actually need to take?

A Welsh January freeride and a summer session in the sunny South-West will obviously require a different load out. If you’re driving yourself, bring the kitchen sink! I’ve found, however, people aren’t pleased when you’ve scraped a lift and you decide you need 3 boards…

What you need will depend on: how you’re getting there, where you’re going, and the time of year.

Snappy Sheepy by LJ Leme

Intrepid rider, LJ, writes “So, it’s 2020, the year of crazy. After months of lockdown, no events, no meet ups, no traveling to places such as Wales, where all the best gems are (#WalesistheonlyhillinEngland), the much anticipated announcement finally came to open the doors – and even though things had to be postponed by a week – the season is reopened.
