Two-year partnership includes 2019 and 2020 events which will count towards qualification for Tokyo 2020
Hop King and SLS to celebrate partnership with skate jam event and VIP party at Hop Kingdom in London Bridge
Hop King, the world’s first beer and skateboarding company, have been announced as the first major event partner for this year’s prestigious World Skate / SLS (Street League Skateboarding) World Series Tour event in London.
The London based brand, started by two skateboard-loving brothers in 2017, will be the ‘Official Pale Ale of SLS London World Series Tour’ which takes place at the Copper Box Arena between 25-26 May.
Hop King celebrated the partnership at a special Skate Jam event in their Hop Kingdom bar and skatepark in London with their Pro-Skate team including British Olympic hopeful Alex Decunha who will compete at the Copper Box.
This year’s World Series Tour event in London will count towards qualification for Tokyo 2020 when the sport will make its historic debut in the Olympics. The city is the first stop on the World Series Tour before it heads to Los Angeles later in the summer and Mexico City in September for the World Championships.
The format for this year’s event in the capital, the UK’s biggest street skateboarding event, ensures a minimum of three British men and women will compete along with last year’s winners, Yuto Horigome and Jenn Soto.
The two-year partnership between SLS and Hop King will also cover the 2020 SLS World Tour Series event in London. Hop King will provide their own filtered pale ale at the event and the tie-up will also see special ticket offers for Hop King customers and the creation of unique event content which will reinforce the company as the ‘World’s first beer and skate brand’. Hop King will be recognised as an official ‘supplier’ to the event alongside other national and global partners.
Hop King was set up by brothers Ben and Ludi Hopkinson and they opened their Hop Kingdom venue close to London Bridge in November 2018 following a successful crowd-funding campaign. The company’s pro-skate team also features London-based Christian Estrada who is currently ranked No. 1 in Spain and is also expected to compete in the SLS event.
Hop King co-founder Ludi Hopkinson, said:
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with SLS on such a huge event for skateboarding in London and the UK. It’s been an incredible two years since we set up Hop King but, as huge skateboarding fans, to be part of this event at such an exciting time for sport is something really special for us. We’re looking forward to opening the doors at Hop Kingdom to London’s skate community this week to celebrate!”
Kaitlyn Banchero, General Manager, SLS added:
“We can’t think of a better first official partner to have on board for the SLS London World Tour then Hop King. Their passion for the sport and skateboarding in London is infectious. It’s why we want to work with them and why they have been so successful in such a short space of time.”
Tickets for the SLS World Tour London event, which will feature some of the world’s best street skaters, went on sale last month.
Qualifying for the competition will take place on Friday 24th May with tickets available for two days of competition on Saturday May 25th and Sunday May 26th. The men’s and the women’s finals will take place on Sunday with semi-finals taking place the previous day.
